Before Taking Levitra
Always discuss taking Levitra with your doctor before you decide to take it. Your physician may want to adjust the dosage of Levitra especially for you. He or she may also want to change the treatment for a condition you may already have. This is important to know especially if you suffer from the following:
- evidence of cardiovascular disease like high blood pressure or low blood pressure
- Family history of strokes or blood clots
- history of heart attacks
- blood cell disorders such as leukemia or sickle cell anemia
- liver or kidney diseases which may require dialysis
- Any changes in testicles or penis. Any pain in the groin area
- vision problems such as tunnel vision that may be related to genetics
- advised by a doctor to avoid sexual intercourse
Be aware of the following:
Levitra increases blood flow in some parts of the body and decrease the flow to the optic nerve. Sudden loss of vision for some people who take Levitra is not unheard of. Those people who have been affected by this vision loss have all shown signs of the following:
- high cholesterol levels
- Type I or Type II diabetes
- preexisting hypertension
- preexisting cardiovascular conditions
- diagnosed with genetic eye conditions
- were smokers
- aged 50 or older
If you suffer vision problems after taking Levitra, go to the emergency room.
Also, Levitra has also been known to cause some hearing loss in users. If this happens to you, treat it as an emergency and seek medical help fast.
If you are taking any drug, be it medically prescribed or recreational, do not take Levitra. Combining Levitra with nitrate, a chemical commonly found in medications used to treat conditions such as angina, can cause sudden loss of blood pressure. Signs of this are dizziness and feeling faint. In extreme cases, you may suffer a stroke or heart attack. To avoid this, do not take Levitra in combination with:
- other treatment drugs of erectile dysfunction
- antibiotics such as amiodarone
- fungal infection drugs and medications
- mood stabilizing drugs such as carbamazepine
- HIV infection treatment drugs
These are only a few of the many drugs and medications that you should be aware of when you are considering taking Levitra. It is up to you and in your own best interest to fully disclose to your doctor the medications and drugs you are taking.
While Levitra is not intended to be taken by women, most women try it. This is not recommended but is not unsafe. While there is no evidence that Levitra will harm your unborn child or affect breast milk, you should be aware that research is ongoing and may change later.
